Hamilton Yarns Scrapbook

2009

January

We played at the George Tavern in London, as part of a night called Other.

Going into the room upstairs in the pub there was suddenly a chilly feeling, partly because it was freezing, but also from the history hanging off the walls - the pub goes back 350 years, and there are tatters of wallpaper here and there, and you start to imagine all the conversations that have gone on in there over the years...

In the middle of the room there was a contraption built by James Dunn, which attracts strangeness.

February

The Wire magazine did a piece on us and also asked if we could donate some unreleased tracks.

So we gave them A.M. - the third part of the 'Search for the Underwater Town'. It's up on their site here.

We will put this out as a mini-CD release sometime in the future.

2008

January - March

We played a couple of gigs in London - one alongside Mary Hampton, Birdengine and the poet Gary Goodman at a pub called The Shaftesbury in Hornsey, and the other courtesy of Dexter Bentley at the Half Moon in Herne Hill. Then there was a fine Sunday afternoon gig at The Albert in Brighton, in which Colin from Edgeworld Records assembled some of his favourite local musical weirdos - Vitamin B12, Req, Ian Ordeal, Gary Goodman, Renford and us - for one last blast.

April

We began recording some new songs from our mostly piano-based set. This is the piano in the chapel at Lewes Priory School.

"To give and not to count the cost"

May

We played as a two-piece in The Vaults cafe in Oxford. It was sparse but good, we reckon.

Pre-gig thoughts

Iain and Marrion at the Komedia, 16th August 2008.

Later in August we went to Hull to play as part of the Seeds and Bridges season curated by Jez Riley French. We walked under the mighty Humber Bridge, sat in a gas-lit pub, played on Jez's dulcitone celeste. Yes, good times were had in Hull.

October

We ventured up to Liverpool to play at a Lost Voices night. We had a good stroll along the banks of the Mersey, where we came across this sitting bull. We also saw a water rat in Sefton Park. Thanks to Jonathan for the fine hospitality and company.
